Nonprofit surprises local military family with trip of a lifetime

North Charleston, SC (WCSC)

A North Charleston family got an unforgettable surprise, a trip to Disney World thanks to nonprofit Baking Memories 4 Kids.

Established in 2012 by cancer survivor Frank Squeo, the foundation, through the proceeds from their holiday cookie sale, funds week long, all-expense paid trips for children with life threatening and terminal illnesses and their families to all the Florida theme parks.

Squeo traveled to North Charleston to surprise 3-year- old Alexander High and his 9-year-old brother, Max, on Tuesday with a special announcement of the trip.

Both brothers have been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a genetic neuromuscular disease characterized by muscle atrophy and weakness.

Both boys are confined to wheel chairs and require professional medical assistance daily.

Squeo was joined by The High’s family and friends as well as the North Charleston Fire Department. Max and Alex’s dad, Aaron High, said he can’t wait to see the boys faces in Orlando.

The family will make the trip to Florida in February.
