Jayce’s Journey

Because You Never Know What Tomorrow May Bring

In the spring of 2018, 2-year-old, Jayce Malone was nominated for a trip with our foundation. His mother had made a vow to provide Jayce with a lifetime of memories in the little time she would have with him.

Baking Memories 4 Kids sends children between the ages of 3 & 18 with life threatening illnesses on once in a lifetime vacation. Sometimes, in very special cases, we need to make exceptions.  The story of Jayce Malone is one of those cases.

In the spring of 2018, 2-year-old, Jayce Malone was nominated for a trip with our foundation. Doctors had diagnosed him with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), a progressive terminal genetic disorder that would most likely rob him of his life before he was 5. His mother had made a vow to provide Jayce with a lifetime of memories in the little time she would have with him.

Recognizing that time was of the essence, Baking Memories 4 Kids arranged for the Malone family to enjoy a dream vacation before Jayce’s  3rd birthday. It was a week where Jayce could be a regular kid for a little while longer before his body would begin to fail.

The following February, we received this message from his mother: “My son Jayce Malone was a cookie kid this past year. Because of his terminal condition you guys made an exception and allowed him to go before he turned 3. He just turned 3 this month and if you all hadn’t made that exception, he would have never enjoyed it. Since our trip he has lost all mobility as well as he is 100% tube fed and requires oxygen at all times. I look back at our pictures and I am sooooo grateful for you all. Just wanted to say Thank you again for the memories I hold so dear.”

Sadly, a little over a month later and less than a year from when he went on his dream vacation, Jayce Malone passed away in the arms of his mom, hopefully comforted by the memories of their days in the sun.
